Runs of non-whitespace characters count as one word each. Punctuation attached to a word stays part of that word; isolated punctuation can count as its own word.
Line count follows common editor behavior: one more than the number of newline characters. Empty input shows zero lines.
Paragraphs are blocks separated by a blank line (two or more newlines with optional spaces between). Leading and trailing empty lines are ignored after trimming the whole text.
